How we handle your data
We collect only what we need to send you the newsletter and improve the site: your email address, basic analytics about which pages help readers most, and any reply you send us. No tracking pixels follow you across the web.
Your email lives in our newsletter platform (Mailchimp). We never sell, rent or trade it. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click and we’ll delete your record within 7 days on request.
Analytics is run through Plausible, a privacy-first tool that doesn’t use cookies or store personal identifiers.

Terms of use
Everything on Backpack Australia is published in good faith as general guidance for working-holiday makers. We’re not migration agents, accountants or lawyers — for anything that materially affects your visa, taxes or rights at work, check with a registered professional.
You’re welcome to share our guides with friends. Republishing whole articles on another website or app requires a quick email first.
We reserve the right to update or remove content as Australian laws and visa rules change. Where we’ve made a material change, we date-stamp it at the top of the article.
03 — Affiliate disclosure
How we make money
Some of the links on this site — banks, eSIM providers, travel insurance, tax-return services — are affiliate links. If you sign up through us we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
We only recommend products we’ve used personally or tested with the community. A commission never decides what we recommend; if a partner stops being the best option, we drop them.
Sponsored articles are clearly marked at the top of the page. Everything else is independent editorial.
04 — Cookies
Cookies & local storage
We use one strictly-necessary cookie to remember your dark/light mode and dismissed banners. That’s it.
Third-party embeds (YouTube, Google Maps) may set their own cookies if you load them. We use privacy-mode embeds where the provider supports it.
You can clear everything we’ve stored at any time from your browser settings without affecting your ability to use the site.
